First Call for your Contributions

!!! The call is closed. Results are here !!!

You are kindly invited to participate in a "Twelve puzzle" contest - the biggest event of the spring term 2004. Make your knowledge of evolutionary algorithms work. Try your ability to transfer your knowledge into practice. Prove yourself as a skillful programmer.

What ?

Write a program to solve a "Twelve puzzle" problem (a problem of filling up a planar figure with a set of pieces). Prepare and submit a web page describing your solution.

Who ?

Everyone is eligible. Participation is compulsory for all senior students (normally 4th year of study) from the Department of Cybernetics and Artificial Intelligence, Technical University of Kosice, taking the course on Evolutionary algorithms in the spring term 2004.

How ?

Your solution is expected to match the following limitations:
  • is based on the theory of evolutionary algorithms
  • is runnable on the Linux/*BSD operating system
  • is able to read a definition of a particular problem from a file (using a given input format)
  • produces its result as a file (using a given output format)
Your program will be provided with a set of different problems (a set of different planar figures). Each submitted program will be scored according to the number of figures solved by this program. The winner will be the one with the best score (to break the tie, an elapsed time will be used).

When ?

The contest is expected to be held on May 20, 2004. You must supply your solution before the day of contest.
